Primary route from the port

Harford County is the I-95 North pipeline out of the Port of Baltimore, and it is the one direction from Seagirt that never touches a harbor tunnel. The county runs from Edgewood and Belcamp through Perryman and Aberdeen toward the Susquehanna, with Aberdeen Proving Ground on the river side of I-95. Amazon, Wayfair and Clorox have distribution here. Spreetail took about 572,000 square feet in Aberdeen in the third quarter of 2026. Baltimore 3PL coordinates partner warehouses, drayage carriers and hazmat-qualified haulers across the county. We do not own a building in Harford. We own the relationships that get the right truck to the right dock.

Getting there from the pier

Seagirt Marine Terminal is the Port of Baltimore’s container terminal. Dundalk Marine Terminal handles ro-ro, breakbulk and project cargo. Both sit on the east side of the harbor, and the drive north starts on I-95 without crossing the water. Count on about 30 road miles and 40 minutes to Aberdeen, less to Edgewood and Belcamp, and US-40 as the parallel route when I-95 backs up.

Most of the Key Bridge story does not apply here. The bridge carried I-695 across the Patapsco south of the terminals. Freight from Seagirt, Dundalk or Tradepoint Atlantic headed north never used it, and hazmat from those gates runs to Harford without a tunnel or a detour. The exception is freight from the south side of the harbor. Vehicles from the Fairfield auto terminals, or anything from Curtis Bay, must cross the harbor on the way north. Standard loads use the Fort McHenry or Harbor tunnels. Hazmat and loads over 14 feet 6 inches high or 11 feet wide loop the west side of I-695, about 30 to 35 extra miles and 45 to 60 minutes, until the new bridge opens in late 2030. The Key Bridge truck routing page has the limits.

Industrial parks and who is there

Eastgate 95 Industrial Park in Aberdeen covers 250 acres. The Container Store runs a 600,000 square foot distribution center there, and MRP Industrial has signed 1.5 million square feet of leases in the park. Perryman Logistics Center, 571,000 square feet, was built on speculation next door, and Prologis has a 580,000 square foot building in Perryman. Aberdeen Proving Ground supports about 23,700 jobs and roughly $4 billion of output, and its contractors and test programs pull defense freight up I-95 every week.

Two policy facts shape what comes next. Harford became the first Maryland county to ban data centers outright in June 2026, so data center construction inbound does not stop here. And a 500 megawatt, six-hour battery storage project called Oystercatcher, next to the BGE Conastone substation in Harford County, was filed under the state’s Next Generation Energy Act in March 2026. If that project or one like it builds, the containerized lithium-ion units are Class 9 hazmat that cannot use the harbor tunnels. From Seagirt or Dundalk to Harford, they do not need to.

What we run in Harford County

Warehousing in partner buildings in Aberdeen, Perryman, Belcamp and Edgewood. Overflow for the e-commerce and home-goods tenants that anchor the county, replenishment stock for brands that sell into their distribution centers, and plain pallet storage with daily status by email.

Drayage from Seagirt and Dundalk up I-95. The lane is short, tunnel-free and predictable, so a drayage partner can turn more containers a day here than on most Baltimore lanes. That is what keeps demurrage and chassis charges down.

Hazmat logistics for the freight that cannot go under the harbor. Battery energy storage units, cells and other Class 9 cargo move from the east-side terminals to Harford on the direct route, with carrier partners whose permits fit the cargo. Read more on the battery energy storage page.

FTZ 74 and duty deferral

Harford County is inside the FTZ 74 service area, which also covers Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Cecil, Howard and Queen Anne’s counties. The zone is administered by the Baltimore Development Corporation. In an FTZ-approved partner building, imported goods wait without duty, and duty is paid only when they ship to a US buyer. Re-exports never pay. For an importer of furniture, storage products or small appliances landing at Seagirt, the deferral turns a duty bill at the pier into a duty bill at the sale. Customs clearance is coordinated through our licensed customs broker partners. The FTZ 74 guide covers activation and timing.

Questions shippers ask

01How far is Harford County from the Port of Baltimore?

Aberdeen is about 30 road miles and 40 minutes north of the Seagirt gate on I-95. Edgewood and Belcamp are closer.

02Does the Key Bridge detour affect Harford County freight?

Not from Seagirt, Dundalk or Tradepoint Atlantic, which sit north of the harbor crossing. Only freight from the south side, such as Fairfield or Curtis Bay, has to cross through the tunnels or take the loop.

03Can hazmat go from the port to Harford County without the detour?

Yes, from the east-side terminals. The run north on I-95 never enters a harbor tunnel, so Class 9 batteries and other hazmat take the direct route.

04Is Harford County inside FTZ 74?

Yes. Harford is one of the seven jurisdictions in the FTZ 74 service area. Duty can be deferred in an FTZ-approved partner building.

05Do you own a warehouse in Harford County?

No. We coordinate partner warehouses in Aberdeen, Perryman, Belcamp and Edgewood, and we pick the building whose permits fit your cargo.

06Are data centers allowed in Harford County?

No. Harford became the first Maryland county to ban data centers outright in June 2026. We stage data center inbound elsewhere.
