Pillar · 3PL Baltimore

A Baltimore 3PL built for what the port actually throws at you.

Record containers, the No. 2 auto port, the No. 1 port for machinery and paper, a bridge out until 2030 and a tunnel that finally clears double-stack rail. One desk handles all of it, through partners we have worked with for 50 years.

What third-party logistics means at this port

A container clears Seagirt. A ro-ro vessel discharges 600 tractors at Dundalk. A transformer lands at Locust Point on a flat rack. In each case someone has to book the chassis, clear the duty, find the floor space, unload, store, pick, load and deliver. A Baltimore 3PL is the company that does all of that under one contract, so you deal with one desk instead of six vendors.

Most 3PLs in this market are a building with a sales team. They are good when your freight fits their building. Baltimore 3PL is a desk with a bench. We have spent 50 years choosing warehouse operators, drayage carriers, transload crews, riggers and licensed customs brokers around the harbor. When your freight lands, we match it to the partner that fits the cargo, the lane and the deadline. Then we stay accountable for the result.

What the desk runs

Twenty services, all priced and watched from one place. Port-side storage in Dundalk and Sparrows Point. Drayage from every terminal. Transloading into 53-foot trailers. FTZ 74 and bonded storage so duty waits until the goods sell. Double-stack rail to the Midwest. Ro-ro, breakbulk and project cargo. Cold chain. Fulfillment. Hazmat routed around the tunnels. White-glove delivery of data center racks into Frederick and Loudoun. A 4PL desk when you want one number for a whole network.

How a quote works

  1. Send the lane. Commodity, count, origin, destination, timing. Five lines in the ledger is enough.
  2. We pick the partner. The warehouse, carrier or crew whose permits, equipment and location fit the move. Not the one we happen to own.
  3. One number back. A quote with the partner cost inside it, not on top of it. Within one business day.
  4. One desk, start to finish. The same person books it, watches it, and answers the phone when the box is late.

How to choose a Baltimore 3PL

Ask any provider five questions. Which terminal gate is your drayage partner at by 06:30? Which of your sites are inside FTZ 74, and are they activated? How do you route a hazmat box while the Key Bridge is out? Can you move a Baltimore box to Chicago by rail without an inland lift? Who calls me when the trailer is late? If the answers are slow, so is the freight.

Our answers: our drayage partners run every public terminal. FTZ 74 covers Baltimore City and six counties, and we place inventory only in activated partner space. Hazmat and over-height loads take the I-695 west loop, priced in from the first quote. CSX double-stack has run through the Howard Street Tunnel since June 2026. And the person who quoted you is the person who calls.

Questions about 3PL in Baltimore

01What does a Baltimore 3PL actually do?

It takes your cargo from the terminal gate to the dock, shelf or job site. That means drayage, transloading, storage, duty handling with a licensed broker partner, and the trucking or rail that follows.

02Do you own a warehouse in Baltimore?

No. We coordinate partner warehouses, carriers and crews we have worked with for years. You get one desk, one quote and one invoice. The partner that fits your cargo does the lifting.

03Which terminals do you work from?

Seagirt for containers, Dundalk for ro-ro, breakbulk and forest products, Fairfield and Masonville for autos, Locust Point for breakbulk, and Tradepoint Atlantic at Sparrows Point.

04How fast can you quote?

Within one business day. Send the lane, the commodity, the count and the timing. A person prices it with the right partner and replies with a figure and a plan.

05Can you use Foreign Trade Zone 74?

Yes. FTZ 74 covers Baltimore City and six counties. We place import inventory in activated partner space and coordinate weekly entry through the licensed customs broker partner.

06What happens with hazmat and oversize loads while the Key Bridge is out?

They cannot use the harbor tunnels until the bridge reopens in late 2030. We plan the I-695 west loop into the rate and the schedule from the first quote.
