Where the port meets the airport

Hanover is the piece of Anne Arundel County between BWI Marshall Airport and the Howard County line, about 15 miles and 30 minutes from the Seagirt gate. Arundel Mills sits at the center, at MD-100 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. BWI air cargo is a few minutes north. Fort Meade, with the National Security Agency, US Cyber Command and DISA, is a short drive south. Hanover is the middle of the Baltimore-Washington Corridor, the industrial submarket that posted 10.5 percent vacancy in the third quarter of 2026 with 1.4 million square feet under construction and 387,000 square feet delivering by year end. Washington DC is about 40 road miles from Seagirt, and Hanover is on that road.

We have no building in Hanover. We coordinate the partner warehouses, forwarders and carriers who work the corridor between the pier and the airport. One desk, every building.

Getting there from the pier

Seagirt Marine Terminal, the container terminal, and Dundalk Marine Terminal, the ro-ro and breakbulk terminal, sit on the east side of the harbor. Hanover sits on the south side. A container leaves the Seagirt gate on I-895, crosses under the Patapsco through the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel, then takes I-97 or the Parkway to MD-100 west toward Arundel Mills. The I-95 Fort McHenry Tunnel and I-95 south are the second route, with MD-100 east off I-95 at the Howard County line. Air cargo at BWI is minutes from either.

Hanover is on the side the Key Bridge served. Until the rebuild opens in late 2030, every port container takes a tunnel, about 9 to 10 more miles than the bridge route. Hazmat and anything over 14 feet 6 inches high or 11 feet wide may not use the tunnels and loops the west side of I-695, about 30 to 35 extra miles and 45 to 60 minutes. Our Key Bridge routing guide lists the limits, and our drayage partners price the loop before dispatch.

Industrial parks and who is there

Arundel Mills is the retail and distribution node at the center of Hanover, at the MD-100 and Parkway interchange. BWI Marshall air cargo is the county’s air gateway, with forwarders and integrators around the apron. Prologis Corridor Industrial Park at MD-32 and I-95 sits on the Howard County line, a few minutes from the Jessup 3PL cluster. The Northrop Grumman Mission Systems campus at Linthicum is a few minutes north. Fort Meade at Odenton anchors a belt of defense and cyber contractors that reaches Columbia and Annapolis Junction. The Anne Arundel County page covers the wider county, and the Glen Burnie page covers the Cromwell Park Drive cluster one exit east.

What we run in Hanover and BWI

Freight forwarding: forwarder partners book BWI air cargo for the part that cannot wait, and ocean capacity through Seagirt for the ones that can. E-commerce fulfillment: corridor partner buildings pick, pack and ship for brands that want one day to Washington, Philadelphia at about 105 miles and New York at about 195. Retail distribution: partner warehouses build retail and CPG orders to the receiving rules of the big chains and run the final leg.

Kitting and value-added partners near Fort Meade and Linthicum support defense, aerospace and government integrators. We place that freight only with partners whose registrations fit the program.

FTZ 74 and duty deferral

Hanover is in Anne Arundel County, inside the service area of Foreign Trade Zone No. 74, administered by the Baltimore Development Corporation. The zone covers Baltimore City plus Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Cecil, Harford, Howard and Queen Anne’s counties. A zone-status partner warehouse in the corridor holds imports with duty deferred until they leave for the US market. Customs clearance is coordinated through our licensed customs broker partners. The FTZ 74 guide explains the steps.

Questions shippers ask
