BWI, the corridor and Fort Meade

Anne Arundel County holds three freight engines. BWI Marshall Airport and its air cargo apron sit at Linthicum, with the Northrop Grumman Mission Systems campus beside it. The Baltimore-Washington Corridor, the industrial submarket that runs from BWI through Hanover to Jessup and Columbia, had 10.5 percent vacancy in the third quarter of 2026 with 1.4 million square feet under construction and 387,000 square feet delivering by year end. Fort Meade, home to the National Security Agency, US Cyber Command and DISA, carried 116,036 jobs and about $17.8 billion in output in the state’s FY2021 study. Washington DC is about 40 road miles from the Seagirt gate, and most of that road runs through this county.

We have no building in Anne Arundel County. We coordinate the partner warehouses, air forwarders and carriers who work the corridor every day. The desk gets the right partner for the lane.

Getting there from the pier

Seagirt Marine Terminal, the container terminal, and Dundalk Marine Terminal, the ro-ro and breakbulk terminal, sit on the east side of the harbor. Anne Arundel County sits on the south side. A container leaves the Seagirt gate on I-895 or I-95, crosses under the Patapsco, and picks up I-97 toward Glen Burnie, MD-100 toward Hanover and BWI, or the Baltimore-Washington Parkway toward Fort Meade and Washington. Call the county line about 10 miles and the corridor 15 to 30 miles, roughly 20 to 45 minutes. The Fairfield and Masonville auto terminals sit on the county’s side of the river and need no tunnel.

This is the side the Key Bridge served. Until the rebuild opens in late 2030, every port container bound for Anne Arundel County goes through the I-95 Fort McHenry Tunnel or the I-895 Harbor Tunnel, about 9 to 10 more miles than the bridge route. Hazmat and anything over 14 feet 6 inches high or 11 feet wide may not use the tunnels and loops the west side of I-695, about 30 to 35 extra miles and 45 to 60 minutes. For a generator, a transformer or a lithium battery cabinet headed to the corridor, that loop is in our quote before the box lands. The Key Bridge routing guide lists the limits.

Industrial parks and who is there

The Cromwell Park Drive cluster in Glen Burnie is the county’s port-facing warehouse address at I-97 and I-695. Arundel Mills in Hanover is the retail and distribution node at MD-100 and the Parkway, with BWI air cargo minutes away. Prologis Corridor Industrial Park at MD-32 and I-95 sits at the Howard County line. The Northrop Grumman campus at Linthicum anchors aerospace and defense demand, and Fort Meade at Odenton anchors government contractors. Our Glen Burnie and Hanover and BWI pages cover each node in detail.

Two buildings delivered vacant in the corridor in the third quarter of 2026, so partner space is available for a shipper that needs it this season.

What we run in Anne Arundel County

Warehousing: corridor partner buildings hold e-commerce and retail and CPG inventory 40 miles from Washington and one tunnel from the pier. Freight forwarding: forwarder partners book BWI air cargo for the parts that cannot wait for a vessel, and ocean capacity through Seagirt for the ones that can. Kitting and value-added: partner crews build kits, label and sequence for the defense, aerospace and government integrators near Fort Meade and Linthicum. We place that freight only with partners whose registrations fit the program.

Drayage partners handle the tunnel leg, and cross-docking partners turn a Seagirt container into corridor deliveries the same day.

FTZ 74 and duty deferral

Anne Arundel County is inside the service area of Foreign Trade Zone No. 74, administered by the Baltimore Development Corporation. The zone covers Baltimore City plus Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Cecil, Harford, Howard and Queen Anne’s counties. Imports in a zone-status partner warehouse in the corridor defer customs duty until they leave for the US market. Customs clearance is coordinated through our licensed customs broker partners. The FTZ 74 guide explains activation, and the import duty deferral page shows the math.

Questions shippers ask

01How does a container get from Seagirt to Anne Arundel County?

Through the I-895 Harbor Tunnel or the I-95 Fort McHenry Tunnel, then I-97, MD-100 or the Parkway. The county line is about 10 miles and the corridor 15 to 30 miles from the pier.

02Can hazmat or over-height loads use the tunnels to reach the county?

No. They loop the west side of I-695, about 30 to 35 extra miles and 45 to 60 minutes, until the Key Bridge rebuild opens in late 2030.

03Is Anne Arundel County inside Foreign Trade Zone 74?

Yes. The county is in the FTZ 74 service area administered by the Baltimore Development Corporation, so a zone-status partner warehouse in the corridor can defer duty.

04Can you handle defense and government freight near Fort Meade?

Yes, through partners whose registrations fit the program. We place that freight only with partners whose permits fit the cargo.

05Do you own a warehouse in Anne Arundel County?

No. We coordinate partner warehouses, air forwarders and carriers across the county from one desk, and we choose the building that fits the lane.
