3,300 acres with its own port

Tradepoint Atlantic is the private port and logistics park on the 3,300-acre former Bethlehem Steel site at Sparrows Point, about six miles and 15 minutes east of the Seagirt gate. The site has developed and leased more than 15 million square feet, with about 6 million square feet still to come. Host Terminals runs the marine operations. Volkswagen Group runs a 115-acre vehicle operation and Pasha Automotive processes autos beside it. The whole site sits inside Foreign Trade Zone No. 74.

Two projects change what Sparrows Point means for freight. On May 1, 2026, Tradepoint Atlantic and Terminal Investment Limited, the MSC-affiliated terminal operator, broke ground on the Sparrows Point Container Terminal: 168 acres, about $1.2 billion, on-dock rail, two berths for ultra-large vessels, seven ship-to-shore cranes, first berth in 2028 and full build-out in 2030, with capacity above 1 million containers a year. MSC is expected to move its Baltimore business from Seagirt to the new terminal. On October 6, 2026, Anduril announced a $3.7 billion submarine-component shipyard of about 2 million square feet with about 3,100 direct jobs. Offshore wind left the site the same month.

We have no building at Sparrows Point. We coordinate partner warehouses, drayage carriers and riggers who already work the site, and we do it from one desk.

Getting there from the pier

Tradepoint Atlantic sits on the east side of the harbor, the same side as Seagirt Marine Terminal, the container terminal, and Dundalk Marine Terminal, the ro-ro and breakbulk terminal. The dray is a short surface-road hop along Broening Highway and the Sparrows Point shore. It never needed the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The bridge collapse of March 26, 2024 did not touch the Seagirt-to-Sparrows Point lane.

It did cut the direct road south. The Key Bridge carried I-695 from Sparrows Point across the Patapsco to Curtis Bay, Glen Burnie and the BWI side. Until the rebuild opens in late 2030, that traffic uses the I-95 Fort McHenry Tunnel or the I-895 Harbor Tunnel, about 9 to 10 more miles than the bridge route. Hazmat and anything over 14 feet 6 inches high or 11 feet wide may not use either tunnel. Those loads loop the west side of I-695, 30 to 35 extra miles and 45 to 60 minutes. For a shipyard that will take in steel modules and machine tools, that detour is the planning fact. Our Key Bridge routing guide sets it out.

Who is on the site

Amazon opened an 855,000 square foot fulfillment center here in 2018 and a second building in August 2020. Under Armour runs a 1.3 million square foot distribution center for online orders. FedEx Ground, Home Depot with more than 500 jobs, Floor & Decor, Harley-Davidson and Atlantic Forest Products hold buildings. McLaren expects a 50,000 square foot East Coast processing facility by the fourth quarter of 2026. University of Maryland Medical System leased a full 400,000 square foot building. Add the Volkswagen and Pasha vehicle yards, the Anduril shipyard and the container terminal, and Sparrows Point holds most of the cargo types the Port of Baltimore leads in: autos, e-commerce parcels, forest products and project cargo. The Sparrows Point Container Terminal page tracks the build.

What we run at Sparrows Point

Ro-ro logistics: finished vehicles and heavy equipment land at Tradepoint Atlantic or Dundalk and move to partner yards for inspection, accessory fit and dealer delivery. The port handled 728,225 autos and light trucks in 2025, No. 2 in the United States. E-commerce fulfillment: partner buildings near the Amazon and Under Armour campuses pick, pack and ship for brands too small for a building of their own. Project cargo and breakbulk: riggers and heavy-haul partners move the oversize pieces the shipyard and the terminal build will need, with the I-695 loop planned in.

Defense and government freight for the shipyard supply chain needs partners whose registrations fit the program. We place that freight only with partners whose permits fit the cargo.

FTZ 74 and duty deferral

All of Tradepoint Atlantic is inside Foreign Trade Zone No. 74, administered by the Baltimore Development Corporation. A partner warehouse on the site holds imported vehicles, parts or finished goods with customs duty deferred until they leave for the US market. Customs clearance is coordinated through our licensed customs broker partners. Read the FTZ 74 guide first.
